The Above And Beyond The Call Of Duty Award

Sierra Survivors

This year we are giving out this special award to the Sierra Survivors with Col. Terry Sullivan.  Thanks to Diane Klund and everyone else on the team for making the extra effort to include Col. Sully and thanks to Col. Sully for making such a huge extra effort to run in this year’s relay while being stationed on the other side of the earth in Afghanistan.  In the past two years, Col. Sullivan ran on the Sierra Survivors team.  He is a member of the Nevada Army National Guard.  This year he was stationed in Afghanistan at the time of the relay.  But that did not stop him.  He was runner no. 10 in the Sierra Survivors lineup.  He ran his 3 legs right in sequence and at the time he would have run them here.  Except he ran them outside of a NATO base in Kabul.  He had on a RTO race bib and he was cheered on by his fellow soldiers.  And his Sierra Survivor teammates carried with them a life sized photo board of Col. Sully in his army gear in a running position.  Many of you saw the photo board and some of you signed the photo board.  Way to go Sierra Survivors and Col. Sully!
